Pictures: Grey Squirrel killed cleanly running along a fence at 35yards
with a BIG load of 3/4oz (21.25gm) UK #6 2.6mm
shot. PC Orange wad, Fiocchi 76mm case, Fiocchi primer and Nobel Sport/Hodgdon
ball powder. Choke: Improved Modified (15thou UK ¾ choke).
The 870 Wingmaster pump in .410 bore was originally a special
order item from the Remington custom shop
from 1950 onwards. A generally available model was not produced
and included in the standard catalogue until 1969. The model tested is
the 870 Express, which comes with a full choke barrel as standard, but
can be opened up to suit individual requirements.
However 870 Wingmaster barrels are available, with a fixed modified choke
that will fit the 870 Express. The matt wrinkle finish of the action and
barrel effectively eliminate glare from the sun that can give away your
position when in a hide.
|
Overall this is a very pleasant gun to shoot and the third shot
comes in very handy when in a pigeon hide, with it also being very
much easier to load when in a confined space, than a conventional
double of either persuasion. Barrel: 25inches (Full), weight 6lbs,
Stock: LOP 14inches, drop at comb 1½inches, drop at heel 2½inches.
*Warning: No responsibility can be taken
for reloaded ammunition or the use and or misuse of any data contained
herein whatsoever, it is down to the individual to ensure the safety
of their own ammunition.
